About Cannan Associates

Daniel has over 20 years’ experience in public practice, and graduated as a Chartered Accountant in 2005. Prior to founding his own practice, Daniel worked in both small and mid-tier accounting firms, experiences that defined his approach to helping clients with accounting services designed around their needs.

Over his time in public practice, Daniel has worked with clients from many varying backgrounds, including primary production, manufacturers, property developers and the firm’s self-managed superannuation fund clients.

“We understand the issues and stresses small business owners experience on a day-to-day basis, and one of our roles is to use our expertise to reduce these stresses.”

Away from the office, Daniel is a husband to Charlotte, and Dad to Benji and Grace. When time permits, he tries to (unsuccessfully) reduce his golf handicap and agonises over missed five-foot putts.

Maria is a qualified CPA and Registered Tax Agent. She holds a Master of Accounting and has over 10 years of experience in public practice, working with clients across a diverse range of industries. Prior to joining Cannan Associates, Maria worked as a Financial Controller in commerce, giving her a practical understanding of how businesses operate on the ground.

Having supported her husband through his own business in the past, Maria also understands the challenges that come with running a small business – from cash flow pressure to the weight of responsibility that business owners carry every day.

“I know how much is at stake for business owners. I don’t just look at numbers – I look at the people behind them.”

Outside of work, Maria enjoys spending quiet weekends with family, and has recently discovered the joy of cross-stitch as a way to unwind.

Maynie is our first point of contact and will be pleased to welcome you into our office.

Maynie has vast experience in customer service roles, from pulling pints in an English pub to working with our clients in relation to all their accounting and bookkeeping needs.

This experience has highlighted a capacity to quickly learn new skills and engage effectively with individuals from all walks of life. As our Office Manager, Maynie keeps the office running seamlessly while supporting both our team and our clients.

Out of the office Maynie is a keen runner, and enjoys spending time hiking, camping and exploring, as well as time in the kitchen cooking and baking.

John is a Chartered Accountant and operated his own accounting practice for over 35 years. In 2024 John moved into the Cannan Associates offices and has since merged his practice into our practice.

John has as keen eye for detail and many long term relationships with his clients, built through respect and trust over many years.
